Overview
This qualification will aim to give you an introduction to the role of the professional taxi and private hire driver and on completion of the course enable you to apply for your taxi licence.

Who is it for?
This course is for you if you are looking to a career in taxi driving or are an existing taxi driver working under Plymouth City Council License.
Outcome
You will achieve a BTEC Level 2 Certificate in Introduction to the Role of the Professional Taxi and Private Hire Driver.
On achieving this qualification you will receive a BTEC Certificate which is necessary to renew your Taxi License.
Content
You will study the following units;
- Unit 1 Health & safety in the taxi & private hire work environment
- Unit 2 Road safety when driving passengers in a taxi or private hire vehicle
- Unit 3 Professional customer service in the taxi and private hire industry
- Unit 4 Taxi & private hire vehicle maintenance and safety inspections
- Unit 5 The regulatory framework of the taxi and private hire industry
- Unit 6 Taxi & private hire services for passengers who require assistance
- Unit 7 Routes & fares in the taxi and private hire vehicle industries
- Unit 8 Transporting of luggage and other items in the taxi and private hire industries
- Unit 9 Transporting of children and young persons by a taxi or private hire vehicle
Assessment
Each unit will be assessed through an on-screen multiple choice question test at the end of each session and an observation test.
Duration
Each course runs for 1 weeks – 10 am to 4pm
Costs
The course costs £300. Payment must be in advance. Drivers who work for Needacab Taxi may spread cost on their Driver account. Please ask For Details
- How will it be delivered?
The BTEC courses will run over one week, with a maximum of 10 trainees per course, and will follow this format:
WEEK 1
Monday 8:45 – 17.00 Classroom
Tuesday 8:45 – 17.00 Classroom
Wednesday 8:45 – 17.00 Classroom
Thursday Half day – times to be conirmed for Online Tests
WEEK 2
Monday 8:45 – 17.00 Classroom
Tuesday 8:45 – 17.00 Classroom
Wednesday 8:45 – 17.00 Classroom
Thursday Half day – times to be conirmed for Online Tests

Places will be allocated on a ‘first come , first served’ basis, with the first 10 people to pay being confirmed on to the course. Payment is £300, cash and must be paid in advance of the start date.
